There are stories you read, others you watch, and just one that you experience. *The Odyssey: The Immersive Journey* is experienced from within, with Homer’s voice as your guide. Five immersive experiences take you from Mount Olympus and Mycenaean Greece to the Trojan War and Odysseus’s long journey home to Ithaca. At the heart of the tour, the vast immersive hall, covering over 1,200 m², allows you to experience eight of the poem’s most epic adventures first-hand. The exhibition can be visited in Hall 16 at Matadero Madrid, lasts around 90 minutes and is available in Spanish and English. It’s an indoor activity, accessible and suitable for all ages, which works just as well for couples, friends, families or school groups.

STEP INTO THE TROJAN WAR
In this virtual reality experience, you’ll take centre stage in the fall of Troy. Hidden inside the famous wooden horse, you’ll enter the city to conquer it and seize the Palladium, the sacred statue of Athena. An immersive 360° experience that marks the beginning of Odysseus’s journey.

In the huge immersive hall, over 1,200 m² of projections surround you, allowing you to experience some of Odysseus’s most epic adventures first-hand. Face Polyphemus, hear the sirens’ song and battle Scylla, whilst images, sound and lasers transform the space around you.

After ten years of travelling, you’ll finally arrive home in the Hall of Ithaca. Discover the story of Penelope and take on the challenge of the famous bow in an interactive installation. Will you be just another suitor, or will you manage to prove that you are the real Odysseus?

Hologram
DISCOVER THE END OF THE MYTH
Your tour ends in the hologram room, which traces Odysseus’s journey right up to his return to Ithaca and his victory over the suitors. Homer, who has been with you from the start, will remind you why this story still moves us almost three thousand years later.

Who is Odysseus?
The most cunning hero in Greek mythology. The man who won a war through his ingenuity and took ten years to return home.
Odysseus, known as Ulysses in the Latin tradition, triumphs not through strength, but through intelligence. It was his idea to use the Trojan Horse, which brought an end to ten years of war. But his greatest feat was not winning the battle, but surviving the journey home: a ten-year odyssey fraught with monsters, temptations and warring gods, with a single goal in mind: to be reunited with his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus, on his island of Ithaca. His story is that of a man who never stops trying to return home, and that is why it continues to move us almost three thousand years later.
The exhibition is being held in Hall 16 at Matadero Madrid, at Plaza de Legazpi 8, 28045 Madrid. By metro, the nearest station is Legazpi (lines 3 and 6), about a five-minute walk away. Several city bus routes also serve the area around Plaza de Legazpi (routes 6, 8, 18, 19, 45, 62, 78 and 148), as well as BiciMAD, and those arriving by car can use the public car parks near Matadero or at the Plaza Rio 2 shopping centre.

No, it’s an original, independent production by MAD Artes Digitales, created by the team behind Tutankhamun, Pompeii, Titanic and Cleopatra. Here, you don’t just watch the story on a screen: you experience it from the inside.
Is photography allowed?
Yes, you can take photos and videos without a flash throughout the tour. In the virtual reality and metaverse areas, for safety reasons, it is advisable to take them from outside the movement zone.
Is it suitable if I have photosensitive epilepsy?
The exhibition features immersive projections, flashing lights and lasers. If you have photosensitive epilepsy, please contact us before your visit.
Are pushchairs allowed inside?
Yes, the route is accessible and can be done with a pushchair. There’s also a place to leave it at the entrance if you prefer.
Do we need to arrive early?
We recommend arriving ten minutes before your admission time. Entry is by ticket, so arriving late may mean you have to wait for the next session.
Can the date on the ticket be changed?
