You can immerse yourself in the city that was a symbol of the power of the Roman Empire and experience first-hand the tragic end that the fury of Vesuvius had in store for its inhabitants.
The public will be transported directly into the streets of Pompeii, where they will have the feeling of walking through its neighbourhoods among the citizens, local shops and public spaces.
History and the virtual come together at Matadero Madrid. The explosion of Vesuvius that buried Pompeii seen from the inside - this immersive exhibition covers more than 1,200m2.
Its virtual projections are so realistic that you can't help but instinctively tilt your body to dodge the lava balls that flew through the sky during the eruption or blink to keep the dense volcano smoke from entering your eyes.
One of the most interesting activities will allow us to enter and interact in the well-known Villa of the Mysteries, with its decorations, gardens, bedrooms, courtyard... and we will even experience a naumachy in the amphitheatre of the city.
An impressive visual, sound and sensory experience through the recently inaugurated Sala Metaverso, which takes us by the hand through the Villa de los Misterios.
An experience that will make us vibrate with the history, life, beauty and destruction of the famous city.
It is a pleasant journey through time until, at one point, the volcano wakes up and covers us with ash. It seems like the last day of the world.

Curator

Míriam Huéscar (Murcia, 1989)

She holds a degree in Art History and a Master’s degree in Production and Management of Artistic Projects. Expert in Cultural Management and Audience Strategy, her professional career revolves around exhibition design and art curatorship, where she combines different technologies with didactic and informative purposes.

In recent years, she has advised on the influence of classical culture on contemporary art projects, as well as on innovation projects applied to culture for the development of new audiences.

Screenwriter and historical advisor

Nacho Ares (León, 1970)

He holds a degree in Ancient History from the University of Valladolid and a Certificate in Egyptology from the University of Manchester. He has dedicated his whole life to the dissemination of history through television and radio programmes, historical novels and essays.

He has been director of Revista de Arqueología, has published more than 300 articles in magazines and was a reporter on the television programme Cuarto Milenio.

Director and presenter of the programme SER Historia (SER channel), he is curator of our international exhibition “Tutankhamun, the immersive exhibition” and scriptwriter for “The last days of Pompeii”.
